3-Dimensional Multiphysics Modeling of Behaviors of Pressurized Water Reactor Fuel Rods With Missing Pellet Surface

چکیده

A 3-dimensional (3D) fuel performance analysis program, able to simulate normal operating conditions and accident for PWR behaviors, was developed based on the Multiphysics Object-Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE) finite-element framework. By taking fission products swelling, densification expansion of pellet, thermal irradiation creep, gap heat transfer, gas release, cladding crack propagation into consideration, detailed behaviors have been simulated in a multiphysics coupling way. Local defects pellet caused during manufacturing filling processes known as missing surface (MPS) can cause abnormal stress distribution it could even lead failure. Taking Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) phenomenon simulation rodlet that consists with an MPS defect intact conducted. The rod has experienced sorts events, including high-power ramp event. results indicated that: 1) affects temperature displacement vicinity defect. When pellets are contact cladding, inner presents large tensile hoop stress, which accelerates propagation. 2) During event, rate higher than under condition length expanded by about 0.1 µm.

Comparison of Pellet-Cladding Mechanical Interaction for Zircaloy and Silicon Carbide Clad Fuel Rods in Pressurized Water Reactors

Contact between the outer surface of a fuel pellet and the inner surface of the fuel rod cladding can result in several kinds of undesirable behavior. As the pellet swells outward and the cladding creeps down, large stresses are generated in both the pellet and the cladding. This contact may exacerbate chemical degradation of the cladding and the stress may enable rapid propagation of cracks. B...

Two-Dimensional PEM Fuel Cells Modeling using COMSOL Multiphysics

A fuel cell has been considered as an efficient and clean alternative power source for automobile industry since the energy crisis forced people to find a substitution for fossil fuels. A proton exchange membrane fuel cell, also known as polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), becomes a prime candidate for applications in vehicles because of its following features: the PEMFC operates at...

Core Loading Design for Bushehr Pressurized Water Reactor

The modified out-in fuel management strategy was applied to the core loading design for the first four cycles of the Bushehr (Iran-1) KWU designed Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR). The minimum peak-to-average power density was chosen as the objective function of the optimization process. Lattice homogenization and group constants generation were performed by using the LEOPARD computer code. For ...
